Low Maintenance Meals with Lucy

finger foods for baby

As I’ve mentioned before, my meals since Lucy’s arrival are often pretty random.  Partly because I don’t have much time for meal prep, and partly because I like to put together a spread that both Lucy and I can eat.  Breakfasts and lunches are now usually a collection of little nibbles – soft, easily chewable, nutritious nibbles.

Sitting down to eat the same meal is fun, not only because it’s much easier for me preparation-wise, but also because Lucy likes to watch me eat, feed me occasional bits of whatever is on her placemat, and enjoys seeing that we’re eating the same things.  Who knows what our family eating habits will be like in the future, but for now I love our little meals together and hope that they last.

Enjoying little bits of sweet potato, green bean, bread, hummus, oranges, apples, and cheese.

Happy mom, happy baby!

Note: No, you have not been transported back to the 80’s…we’re just experimenting with how to keep Lucy’s long hair out of her eyes!

This is great! Love the headband!! I find that meal time is becoming a bit of a headache for me as I have a picky eater on my hands. When we did the pureed foods she ate everything. Now she is almost a year old and eating solid/finger foods. She will only eat bananas, peas, cheese and yogurt consistently. Everything else is complete hit or miss. I’ve tried chicken, tofu, ALL veggies/fruits (roasted, boiled, steamed), quinoa pasta (plain and with sauce), stuff with lots of flavor, stuff with a little flavor… and the list goes on. Is Lucy picky about anything? Everyone keeps saying – “Keep trying! She will like it eventually!” I’m beginning to doubt that!

All kids are different, of course. But I agree with the ‘keep trying’ advice. If you stop introducing new foods, or re-introducing foods she previously didn’t love, she may resist trying new things as she gets older. No need to get super vigilent about it, just keep bringing new/old healthy stuff around so she’s consistently exposed. And try serving things in different forms. Maybe the avocado-spinach smoothie I just posted?!
