(Keep reading to find out how to win).

I had always been curious about high-powered blenders but had never tried one before until recently. Wow. I can’t imagine going back to a regular old blender. The Blendtec is just so effective at crushing ice, making things frothy, and pureeing. Plus it is essentially a food processor, mixer, juicer, and ice cream maker all-in-one. And, it’s smaller and easier to store than the VitaMix and other high-powered blenders on the market.

I made a few things right away to try it out. First whipped cream, then one of my blended coffees, and then a smoothie using a Stonyfield Blends nonfat yogurt.

Blends are a thick, creamy yogurt – kind of like Greek but without the tang. They are higher in sugar than I’d prefer, so I recommend eating them as a treat or mixing half of one into 3 oz plain yogurt so it’s less sweet (especially if serving to kids).

However, the sweetness of Blends does make for a highly delicious smoothie…

For this smoothie, I mixed a strawberry banana yogurt with lots of frozen strawberries, half a banana, one pitted date, a drop of vanilla extract, and 1/2 cup lowfat milk.

All I had to do was press “Smoothie,” and 40 seconds later had a PERFECT smoothie. (Warning: if you’re not used to a super blender like this, brace yourself: it’s strong and loud!)

And nerdy as it sounds, cleaning the blender was fun, too. ;) I cleaned it as Blendtec recommended: by putting a squirt of dish soap and cup of warm water in the container and pulsing until it got frothy.

Then just poured the soapy water over the lid and rise everything with hot water.

I imagine you can clean any blender this way, I just hadn’t thought of it.

OK, and now…
