3 Ways to Turn Plain Yogurt Into Healthy Dessert

healthy dessert recipes

I can never swear off desserts, no matter how healthy I’m trying to eat. My sweet tooth is just too grand!

Luckily, I’ve trained myself to enjoy “treats” that still pack some nutritional value. It’s the only way I can have my (non)cake and eat it too 😉

One of my favorite foods to doctor up into healthy dessert is plain Greek yogurt. Its the perfect medium because it takes on the flavor of whatever you top it with and contains satisfying protein, so you won’t be as tempted to go searching for more dessert after eating it.

Here are three of my favorite ways to turn plain yogurt into a healthy treat.

easy healthy desserts

1. With dark chocolate and toasted sweet coconut. If you like chocolate and coconut together, this is the way to go. It’s chewy and crunchy and chocolatey.

2. With chopped kiwi and pomegranate seeds. Not very many fruits are in season in the wintertime, but kiwi and pomegranate are, and they are so delicious together. Plus, their colors make a bowl of yogurt beautiful!

3. With lemon curd. Most recently I made Meyer lemon curd using this recipe, which was DELICIOUS. But Greek yogurt is delicious with regular lemon curd too, whether homemade or store-bought. The curd is sweet and tart, and works perfectly with the tang of yogurt.

What other kinds of toppings do you add to Greek yogurt to make it feel like a treat?

Love this post! I have a major sweet tooth so I always try to trick myself into thinking I’m indulging when it’s a healthier option. Definitely trying coconut greek yogurt with lemon curd!

I recently came across Love Crunch Granola in their new Dark Chocolate Macaroon flavor. It is to die for on Stonyfield Plain Green Yogurt! Reminded me of your chocolate/coconut combo in your post. 🙂

I have a jar of lemon curd sitting in the cabinet and I’ve been wondering what to do with it. I am going to open it and have it with my yogurt asap!! I would have never thought of that.

What a great, fun post! As you know, much of my brain capacity is tied up with my preoccupation for dessert 🙂 I love all these ideas as well as finely diced granny smith apples, chopped walnuts, and a swirl of honey!

Ohhhh i’ll have to try the dark chocolate and toasted sweet coconut one. Its important to satisfy your sweet tooth when you’re sticking to a strict diet. Otherwise when/if you reach your goals you might backslide into old habits, because what you were doing wasnt sustainable. It took me a few cycles of this to figure it out.

I eat lemon curd with my greek yogurt all the time! But I add almonds. I toss a handful of almonds with the lemon curd to glaze them and then top the yogurt rather than mix everything together. So delicious!

That sounds amazing, Joannah! I always like a little extra crunch too 😉
