Healthy Pepperoni Pizza

pepperoni pizza

I’ve said it many times: I think pizza has an undeserved bad reputation.

Why?

Because when you’re careful with the ingredients you select for homemade (or even store-bought & delivered) pizza, it can actually be a nutritious main dish.

Usually, one of my recommendations for making healthy pizza has been to skip the traditional pizza meat, which is often overly processed and full of additives & preservatives…not to mention from animals who’ve been raised in inhumane and unsustainable ways.

But I’m happy to announce that Applegate is now making mini pork & turkey pepperoni, which means you can now enjoy a traditional pizza topping without all the gross stuff. Applegate’s mini pepperoni are:

  • From humanely raised turkey and pork, given a 100% vegetarian diet
  • Lower in fat, sodium and sugar than conventional pepperoni
  • Free of nitrates & nitrites, all preservatives, antibiotics, hormones, gluten, casein

They’re also delicious!

I recently made a healthier pizza w homemade whole wheat dough, homemade pizza sauce that included blended veggies in it, then topped w sliced zuccs, a little spicy sausage, some halved cherry toms & avocado slices & then just a few slices of fresh mozzarella. The avocado helps give it a creaminess so you don’t need as much cheese. It was super yummy!
